Music festivals bring people together to enjoy live performances, connect with friends, and create lasting memories. But to fully enjoy the event, packing the right items is crucial. Without proper preparation, you might find yourself uncomfortable, dehydrated, or unprepared for the unexpected. I've been to 7 music festivals and (4 Coachellas, When We Were Young, and Outsidelands) and these are items I always make sure to pack and have on hand either prior to the festival or during.
Many festivals require clear bags for security reasons. A clear bag lets security staff quickly inspect your belongings without slowing down entry. Choose a bag that is spacious enough to hold all your essentials but compact enough to carry comfortably.
Look for a durable, water-resistant clear bag.
Ensure it has multiple compartments for organization.
Pack only what you need to avoid clutter.
Using a clear bag not only speeds up your entry but also helps you stay organized throughout the day. It also fits enough space to pack a light windbreaker if it gets chilly at night.
If you prefer to not carry a water bottle, a hydration backpack allows you to carry water hands-free and drink easily without missing a beat.
Choose a backpack with a built-in water reservoir.
Make sure it fits comfortably and has adjustable straps.
Some models include extra storage for snacks, sunscreen, or small items.
Carrying a hydration backpack means you won’t have to wait in long lines for water, and you can keep your energy up all day.
Festival days often involve exposure to sun, dust, and wind, which can dry out your hair. Applying hair oil before and during the event helps protect your hair from damage and keeps it looking fresh.
Use lightweight hair oil that absorbs quickly.
Apply a small amount to the ends and mid-lengths.
Reapply as needed, especially if you’re in a dusty or windy environment.
Hair oil also adds shine and reduces frizz, so you can look your best while dancing and enjoying the music. I've been using Remilia Hair Serum for over a year and I still love it to this day.
Long festival days can drain your energy. Having a nutritious snack like a Bish Bar on hand provides a quick and tasty energy boost.
Bish Bars are delicious daily protein bars packed with superfoods, and hormone-loving vitamins and minerals.
They are easy to carry and don’t require refrigeration.
Eating a bar between sets helps maintain your stamina.
My personal favorite flavor is Pillow Talk which is Chocolate Hazelnut.
Even if the day is warm, temperatures can drop quickly in the evening. A foil blanket is lightweight and compact, perfect for staying warm during late-night sets or unexpected weather changes.
Foil blankets reflect body heat to keep you warm.
They are waterproof and can double as ground cover.
Easy to fold and carry in your bag.
Bringing a foil blanket means you can enjoy the festival from dusk till late without feeling cold or uncomfortable. Personally, I have yet to use one but I always bring them for my friends.

Your phone is essential for capturing moments, navigating the festival, and staying connected with friends. A portable charger ensures your devices stay powered throughout the day.
Choose a charger with enough capacity to fully charge your phone at least once.
Look for compact, lightweight models.
Keep your charger in an easily accessible pocket.
Having a charged phone means you won’t miss important calls, photos, or updates. This is probably one of the most important things to have on you especially since a lot of festivals are going cashless.
Sun, wind, and constant talking or singing can dry out your lips. Chapstick keeps them moisturized and prevents cracking.
Pick a chapstick with SPF for sun protection.
Apply regularly, especially after eating or drinking.
Keep it in your clear bag for easy access.
Healthy lips make a small but noticeable difference in your overall comfort.
Festival bathrooms can be less than ideal. Disposable wipes offer a convenient way to stay fresh and clean.
With large crowds and shared facilities (and sometimes no working hand washing stations), hand sanitizer is a must-have to reduce germs.
Use a small bottle that fits in your clear bag.
Apply after using the restroom or before eating.
Choose a sanitizer with moisturizing ingredients to avoid dry skin.
Keeping your hands clean helps prevent illness and keeps you feeling your best.
Other Nice to Have Items for Festivals
Outdoor Lightweight Windbreaker Rain Jacket - I always pack this specific one because it's easy to fold (also comes with its own bag) and the color matches every outfit
Face mask or bandana - Depending on the festival location, the dust is very real. Having a face mask or bandana can protect your nose and lungs!
Phone case with strap and wallet - Avoid pick pocketers by using a case that is attached to you. This past Coachella I ordered this specific one and I loved it.
Ear plugs- Arguably this should be higher up on the list. Ear protection is so important, I wish I was used these my previous years. This Coachella I tried the Loop Experience 2 Ear Plugs and I am thanking myself for it.
Plastic water bottle with wrist strap - If you aren't going to use a hydration pack (like me), hydration is still important! I like to carry a plastic water bottle (since many venues don't allow glass or metal containers) with a wrist strap so it's easy to carry.
Final Thoughts
Music festivals are some of my favorite experiences, and after going to a few, I finally feel like I have the essentials down. The biggest tip? Always choose comfort over fashion, especially when it comes to shoes. Trust me, your feet will thank you by the end of the day.
Don’t forget the basics like your ticket, and most importantly, go in ready to have fun and enjoy the moment!
